Biomedical Engineering links the Physical Sciences and Engineering with Clinical Medicine and the Life Sciences in many interdisciplinary activities. This multi-disciplinary field plays a vital role in bringing advances of the natural sciences and technology to our knowledge of life and especially to the service of human health. Contemporary medicine, both diagnostic and therapeutic, relies increasingly upon highly sophisticated technical methods, devices, and equipment. This trend has continued for the past three decades and shows great increase today leading to a new paradigm - Convergent Medical Technology. These achievements represent only a sample of what can be obtained through systematic cooperation and team work. Such an effort represents a two-way street. Not only do Medicine and Health Care benefit from the results of such cooperation, but new directions for further technological advancement are generated. |
